Green Goes Green
Fourth Year students surprised Christmas shoppers on the 6th of December with a flash-mob to publicise their anti-Litter campaign entitled Living the Green.
“Trash-Mob” is the witty name the TY students christened their flash-mob. The flash-mob was designed to highlight the need for people to take responsibility for the litter in their area. The campaign involved a seven week long Environmental module in school that allowed students to investigate, research and promote the importance of recycling as well as the devastating effect of littering.
The Transition Years went to Merchant’s Quay shopping centre to spontaneously perform their flash-mob to raise awareness about a rubbish bin inside the centre. The students dispersed themselves discreetly throughout the shopping centre in anticipation of the “signal”. One student, pretending to tie their shoelace, subtly left a plastic bottle beside the bin. As soon as a good-natured shopper picked the bottle up and placed it in the bin, the Fourth years bombarded the unsuspecting passer-by with the cheers while wearing red Santa hats with “Trash-Mob” emblazoned on them.
The event was hailed a great success. To see the video, search ‘Trash-Mob Cork 2012’on YouTube or find us on Facebook and Twitter @_TRASH_MOB.
