Mock Trials

At 6am on Saturday 5th May, St Angela’s College Transition Year students boarded the train bound for the Semi Finals of National Mock Trial Competitionin Dublin.  The team were a credit to the school as theyperformed wonderfully in a hotly contested semi-final in the Central Criminal Courts in Dublin. The presiding judge commented that the arguments presented by barristers Niamh O’Leary-McNiece and Clodagh Quilter would not have been out of place in a real courtroom, and that the girls missed out on a place in the final by a margin of only a few points.
Our team of solicitors, jury members, witnesses, reporters and artists enjoyed the experience enormously, and our courtroom photographer, Lorna McCarthy took second prize for her picture of Aisling Kilcommons in the witness stand. All of the participants were awarded All-Ireland Bronze medals.
We want to express our gratitude to barrister and past pupil, Suzanne Lewis, who helped in the preparation of the case and who accompanied us to Dublin. We were also delighted that Mr Kraza was able to join us.
Well done to everyone involved.
