Basketball
We currently have first and second year, cadet and senior basketball teams. All students are welcome to join, no experience is necessary. Our school competes in both the league and cup competitions at A level. First and second year competitive games do not start until January. St Angela’s has a strong tradition of basketball with both current and past pupils having represented club, county and country.
Coordinating teacher: Ms Mairead Downey.
Uniform / what your daughter needs:
T-shirt, shorts, basketball boots / cross trainers, school basketball hoodie (optional), navy tracksuit bottoms. Students can train in their own sports gear. The school provides jerseys for matches.
Permission:
Students must have a note in their journal, signed by parents indicating their permission for their daughter to attend any match. It is the students responsibility to have the note countersigned by the Principal or Deputy Principal before they leave for a match. Students must be signed out of the school office before they leave the premises.
Communication: Basketball notices and updates are posted on the Basketball noticeboard outside the PE hall. Other notices regarding fees or cancellations due to bad weather will be sent via the school app.
Commitment: It is imperative that players are committed to their sport. This involves attending training sessions on a regular basis. If there is not a consistent group of players at training it is very difficult to build team morale and be successful. It can be very frustrating for all concerned. Players must be punctual for all sessions. Players arriving late disrupt training and it is not fair on those who have arrived on time. Players who are consistently late may forfeit their place on a team. We would like to remind parents that it has always been school policy that school training and matches take priority over club training and matches.
