Transition Year in St Angela’s College offers students the opportunity to:
- Ensure they are comfortable with the concepts and techniques from the Junior Cycle
- Prepare for the Leaving Certificate course
- Decide on the appropriate level for the Leaving Certificate course
- Use everyday life problems to further their mathematical skills
Students are streamed at the beginning of TY. The year begins with 1 Ordinary Level class, and 3 streamed Higher Level classes. The streaming is based on Junior Cycle results, plus teacher observations.
Pupils continue to study mathematics at the level they took for Junior Cycle. However, some pupils who struggled to complete the Junior Cycle Higher Level syllabus choose at this time to move to Ordinary Level. This allows them the time and space to ensure that their basic skills and understanding are in place prior to commencing 5th Year.
TY students are very involved in preparing and running Maths Week Activities for the rest of the school. They also have the opportunity to take part in a number of external competitions such as Peter’s Problems and Maths Eyes.
