Talk on ‘How to protect your child in the digital age`
The Parents’ Council held their AGM on Monday, 8th October 2012 at 7.30pm in the High School. We were very fortunate to have Dr Maureen Griffin, Forensic Psychologist as our Guest Speaker on the night. She has visited over 120 schools across Ireland speaking to students, staff and parents regarding issues around social media and internet and mobile phone safety.
This issue is very relevant because of the dangers of social media and in particular cyber bullying which is of concern to every parent. Dr Griffin’s presentation outlined Irish students’ use of social media including social networking such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and online chat facilities. Resources to help parents navigate these unfamiliar areas and practical advice and tips for dealing with misuses of technology were offered by Dr. Griffin on the night.
