St. Angela’s Debating Society is delighted to announce that the inaugural Rosalie Moloney Perpetual Award, which took place on Saturday, 24th March, was a resounding success. The competition was a showcase of the great debating talent of St Angela’s students, which is the result of much practice and attending of competitions all year round and the guidance of Ms. O’ Keefe and Ms Chambers.
The night was hosted by Rebecca Chisholm and Clíodnha Ní Ghadhra and featured speeches from Rosalie Moloney and Linda Byrne of the Past Pupils Union. The night consisted of two main debates; one for the juniors and one for the seniors.
The Junior debate included Ciara Desmond, Megan Luddy and Roisin Neville on the proposition and Catríona Meehan, Eleanor Noonan and Jenny Bruton on the opposition. The motion was TTH Would Not Pay The Household Charge and after a captivating debate, Megan Luddy emerged victorious.
The Senior debate featured Eimear Cahill, Eva O’ Kelly and Catherine Noonan on proposition and Riona Coleman, Charlotte Smith and Kelly Doherty on the opposition. Their motion was TTH Believes Ireland’s Fate Lies Outside Its National Borders, and after a lively debate, Charlotte Smith claimed the victory.
