Our 3rd-year history students enjoyed a trip to the Arc Cinema in Cork city as part of History Week celebrations. With a screen all to themselves, they immersed themselves in the powerful narrative of “One Life”. This gripping film recounts the true story of Nicholas “Nicky” Winton, a London broker who heroically rescued hundreds of predominantly Jewish children from Czechoslovakia during WW2, just before the Nazi occupation. The movie served as a poignant extension of our classroom studies on WW2 and the Holocaust, shedding light on historical events with remarkable depth and emotion. As the credits rolled, our students departed with a deeper understanding of history and a renewed sense of empathy for those who lived through such tumultuous times.
