CAO 2023 opened on November 4th, and remains open until February 1st 2023.
Earlier this month, 6th Years completed a demo of a CAO application form in their Career classes. Following this, students who intend on making an application were advised to register with the CAO as soon as possible in order to continue that work in school. (Registering simply means setting up a personal account). Students’ choice of courses can be added and amended as time goes on. Students can register on www.cao.ie for a cost of €30 if done before the 20th of January 2023.
For further information, the CAO Handbook can be viewed at https://www.cao.ie/handbook.php
As outlined at the Parent Information evening in September, the CAO also has 4 supplementary components;
1. SUSI/Grant
2. Language Exemptions
3. HEAR (financial support)
4. DARE
Each of these additional sections need immediate attention if applicable to a student.
On Thursday, December 1st, a DARE Workshop has been organised for those 6th Year students applying for DARE. The workshop will take place in school from 10.30 to 13.10, in order to help each student complete the necessary paperwork. Students attending must have registered for the CAO before this workshop. Each student has been added to a DARE Google Classroom group and instructions / guidelines for writing the required Personal Statement are visible to each student. We would ask that prior to the workshop, that students would have a draft ready of their Personal Statement. The statement is an opportunity for students to tell the Third Level Colleges about their experience of their school life and the challenges they encountered during their time in secondary school.

The Section C form (http://www2.cao.ie/downloads/documents/2023/EDF.pdf) must be given to the relevant professional/s in order to be completed, if an existing report with the same information does not already exist. It is also uploaded for your reference. Students applying under Specific Learning Difficulty/Dyslexia, can use the existing copy of their Educational Psychology Report and do not need to complete Section C.
The closing date for submission of Section B (as completed by the school) and Section C/s (as completed by the appropriate professional) must be submitted to the CAO by the student before March 15th 2023.
We have made contact with the 6th Year students who we know are applying, or who are considering applying for DARE. If you require further information or there is any student who believes they may be eligible to apply for DARE, or there are students for whom we do not have personal information on, please let Ms Gallagher or Ms Kelly know straight away.
Kind regards,
Ms Gallagher and Ms Kelly
