St Angela’s College would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to past pupil Maeve Collins on the recent commencement of her role of Irish Ambassador to Germany. Ambassador Collins attended her accreditation ceremony at Schloss Bellevue on Wednesday 4th September, marking the official beginning of her ambassadorship. Ambassador Collins is Ireland’s first woman Ambassador to Germany in 95 years of diplomatic relations between our two countries.
Ambassador Collins studied Law and German in UCC after leaving St Angela’s College, and graduated as a Barrister in 1990. Under the Department of Foreign Affairs, she worked in Ireland’s Embassies in Berne, Ottawa, Hanoi and Helsinki. She has previously been Ireland’s Ambassador to Finland and Vietnam. Ambassador Collins recently held the position of the Director General of the EU Division within the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland.
We were so privileged to have Ambassador Collins here in the school on International Women’s Day this past March 8th, as part of a panel of inspiring past pupils. This was organised by the Student Council and Ms Gallagher. Along with the 6 other contributors, Ambassador Collins willingly gave of her time to share stories of her days in the green uniform, where life took her after graduation, and what job and career path she chose. She captivated the students with the story of her fascinating life. We wish her every success in her new role.
