Yesterday, we celebrated International Women’s Day. The Student Council organised a Purple Day for IWD and hosted an interview with 2 guest speakers from Afghanistan. We learned about inequalities around accessing education, lack of opportunities for girls and women and how important it is for us all to value the circumstances and scope of possibilities we have in our school and in Ireland. The 5th Years gave each student a purple ribbon with a quote, phrase or name of inspiration written on it, which they then tied to the trees at reception. The proceeds of the day will go towards an education centre and orphanage for girls in Afghanistan. We are immensely proud of all our Student Council members this year and thank them for inspiring us and encouraging us to reflect on how we too can work for justice and equity in our communities and the wider world.
