Balloon Launch in aid of Mná Feasa
On the 10th of December our YSI transition year class group organised a balloon launch in front of the school as part of their REALationships project. Their project is based around promoting healthy relationships in our society. On this day they had 400 purple balloons and 100 white balloons to show how one in every five women are domestically abused in Ireland. Each student was given a balloon to release into the sky when instructed by the Lord Mayor, Mary Shields. The Y.S.I group invited two representatives from Mná Feasa, the Lord Mayor and some other local city councillors to participate in the balloon launch. The Lord Mayor and a representative of Mná Feasa spoke to the students telling them not to be afraid to speak up and tell someone if they were getting abused. All the balloons were released together and they all watched them raise up into the sky symbolising how all women are there for those who get domestically abused. This was a superb idea and worked tremendously thanks to the hard-working Y.S.I transition year students. We hope that by raising awareness about this issue it will help our students to see the clear differences between healthy relationships and unhealthy relationships.
