At 6am on Saturday 5th May, St Angela’s College Transition Year students boarded the train bound for the Semi Finals of National Mock Trial Competitionin Dublin. The team were a credit to the school as theyperformed wonderfully in a hotly contested semi-final in the Central Criminal Courts in Dublin. The presiding judge commented that the arguments presented by barristers Niamh O’Leary-McNiece and Clodagh Quilter would not have been out of place in a real courtroom, and that the girls missed out on a place in the final by a margin of only a few points.
Our team of solicitors, jury members, witnesses, reporters and artists enjoyed the experience enormously, and our courtroom photographer, Lorna McCarthy took second prize for her picture of Aisling Kilcommons in the witness stand. All of the participants were awarded All-Ireland Bronze medals.
We want to express our gratitude to barrister and past pupil, Suzanne Lewis, who helped in the preparation of the case and who accompanied us to Dublin. We were also delighted that Mr Kraza was able to join us.
Well done to everyone involved.
Congratulations to St Angela’s Transition Year team who ‘topped the polls’ at the quarter finals of the National Mock Trial Competition in the Central Criminal Courts in Dublin on Saturday 28th April.

Our two wonderful barristers, Clodagh Quilter and Niamh O’Leary McNiece were ably supported by our meticulous solicitors, Niamh Russell, Michaela Murphy, Niamh O’Connor and Ellen Hayes. The witnesses, Aisling Kilcommons, Alice Maguire, Aisling Woulfe, Aoife Palmer, Orlagh Filen and Alice Moloney proved unshakable by the three opposing teams, and helped to secure St Angela’s advancement to the finals on Saturday 5th May. Equally impressive were our team of researchers and jurors, Alice Smith, Liadh Conroy, Aisling Wallace, Brigid Purcell and Julie Coughlan.
The courtroom photographer, Lorna McCarthy, and the courtroom artist, Catriona Osborne, captured the essence of the competition in their different media, and Lauren Mulchay and Sophie O’Sullivan were the print and television reporters on the day. Well done to everyone involved for all the hard work and dedication, and best of luck in the finals.
