The celebration of the Irish language was in full swing this year with Gaeilge 24 in February and Seachtain na Gaeilge in March. These events were met with incredible enthusiasm from both students and staff, highlighting the importance of incorporating Gaeilge into our daily lives.
Gaeilge 24, which took place on 28th February, was a resounding success. Students participated in a range of fun and interactive activities that encouraged them to use their cúpla focal in an enjoyable way. First Years took part in Yoga and Just Dance as Gaeilge, along with a game of Simon Saysin Irish. Second Years tested their teamwork and problem-solving skills in a thrilling treasure hunt. Third Years engaged in a quiz and enjoyed an Irish-language film, while Transition Year students explored the city, using their Irish in real-world settings through orienteering. Fifth and Sixth Years also joined in on the fun, with quizzes tailored to their level. Sixth Years in particular took on the unique challenge of speed dating—all through Irish!
Building on the energy of Gaeilge 24, Seachtain na Gaeilge brought even more opportunities for students to immerse themselves in the language. First Years embraced mindfulness with an outdoor yoga session, while Second Years got creative with a poster competition, tested their knowledge in a quiz, and took on an exciting treasure hunt. Third Years took part in Tráth na gCeist in Christians and enjoyed a Drop Everything and Read session in Irish. Transition Year students indulged in an Irish-language movie marathon and had the opportunity to hear from a guest speaker. Meanwhile, Fifth and Sixth Years competed in engaging quizzes, putting their knowledge of Irish to the test.
Throughout the week, students also took part in daily challenges such as the Ceist an Lae, where they had the chance to win fantastic prizes for answering the daily Irish-language question. The school was also adorned with a beautiful art display in the reception area, showcasing students’ creative talents. Inside the classrooms, students embraced Gaeilge through singing, games, debates, and various competitions.
A massive well done to all students for their enthusiasm and participation in both events! Special congratulations to our prize winners:
Ms. O’Grady – Best Teacher Prize for Speaking Irish
Elise O’Reilly (Sixth Year) – Senior Prize
Elsa Falvey (Second Year) – Junior Prize

The passion for Gaeilge was evident in every corner of the school, and it was truly heartwarming to see such dedication to our native language.
