On Thursday 16th of October, our Transition Year students walked from Patrick’s Hill to the Ursuline Convent in Blackrock and back. The walk was to mark the ‘Celebration of 250 years of Ursulines in Ireland’. Our girls walked to represent the generations of young women that have been educated by the Ursulines in Ireland. Students and Staff covered 1.7 million steps between them on their walk. This is the same distance as walking from Blackrock to Paris, a journey made by the first Ursuline Sisters who travelled there to study before returning to the Convent in Blackrock. While there, Ms. Shannon presented Sr Mary McDaid of the Ursuline Sisters with a framed picture of The North Laurel, a symbol that is held dear to all in St Angela’s College. It was a poignant visit as while the Sisters are celebrating 250 years in Ireland, this will be their last year in the Convent in Blackrock. We are thankful to them for receiving us with such warmth and kindness, and making our visit so memorable.
